Dungeon Siege

If anyone is wondering what happened to some the GoDS that were regular posters on the forum I'm sorry to inform you that we have found this title. When we went to AC's last LAN we found this title and were even to our disbelief hooked almost instantly. Since that was just Abysal, CyberfireX and myself we just had to tell the others. Sythro and DoomExec have fallen as well.

The Original game was what hooked us but even the 1-2 hours we played at AC showed us it still had it's faults. Limited storage on character and magic users advancing at a rate that slugs even say, "Damn what a slow poke!!!" But we didn't know they FIXED this with the Expansion that has the Original game in 1 set of 3 CDs. So we purchased a backpack for our characters in the expansion but hopped back into the original to play threw.

We are currently on Chapter 5 (as of 7/10/04) and working up threw the levels. I think our lowest character is almost at 30th level and it's still challenging. While the world is SEMI-Dynamic based on your party we still ended up unconscious (1st your character is unconcious then if he contiues to recieve damage then he will die where you will have to respwan in another location) a few times and relying on others to heal us or even better lure the monsters away while we heal ourselves. We all like the system of “discovering” what kind of character each is. You start as a “Farmer”, whether you pick up a bow, a club, or cast a wimpy “fire shot” is how you decide what your character should evolve into. Be careful of spreading your self too thin, it does get progressively harder to level up if your not focusing on a particular ability. But all are agreed that having the spell “healing hands” regardless of character is a good way to start.

So this is a classic game that has slipped under OUR game radar they is fun and cheap. But I do have to offer this warning; you have to have the time to do it. This game has been all consuming of our normal gaming time! While we as a group pride ourselves on playing a bunch of different games in a gamming session for the past 3 sessions we got together to game we played this game the entire time. Heck I even VPNed to get a few more experience levels the other night.

This is a good RPG even thou it’s a bit dated. The Expansion pack is equivalent to C&C: Generals Zero Hour and StarCraft: Broodwars which are ESSENTIAL in my opinion for good game play. I would recommend it for any gamer wanting to relive good ole' DND sessions, and newcomers will enjoy as well.

We played this game when it first came out and I loved it. I read reviews for the expansion that went both ways and eventually turned away from it.

Yeah the game is cool, I enjoyed it more then Diablo 2. Although I would think that Neverwinter Nights would be better? Maybe not, we tried it before but the game was too slow moving of an RPG, DS-LOA just seems a much faster pace... and also the leveling system is great. You basically level up in what you make your character do the most. And better yet when I was like 24th level or so as a fighter class I started with a 1st level character and rather then use my fighter skills I developed my Nature magic instead, so I went up those levels and it was challeging... of course if things got too tough I wiped out the sword and went hack and slash :)
